A meditation on walking pilgrimage, based on the book Walking in the Footsteps of the Buddha by buddhist monk Maarten Olthof.
Maarten re-discovered a walking pilgrimage, derived from ancient maps and texts, for a literal walk in the footsteps of the Buddha. This 72 minute documentary is based on Maarten’s book, which chronicles his 2003 walk in detail.
Filmmaker james dean conklin followed Maarten on the modern, truncated version of this pilgrimage, from 2013 through 2016, visiting the four main Buddhist pilgrimage sites: Lumbini, Nepal; Bodhgaya, India; Sarnath, India; Kushinagar, India. The movie was in post-production for a full year and finally made ready for release on September, 2018.
